P I S S I S

Mount Pissis, also known by its original Quechua name Pillanhuasi, is a dormant stratovolcano located on a branch of the Andes mountain range in the Puna region of Argentina, marking the border between the provinces of La Rioja and Catamarca. This volcano is the third-highest peak in the Southern and Western Hemispheres, with an elevation of 6,795 meters above sea level.

DAY 1

La Rioja airport night hotel Reina Mora

 

DAY 2

 

Departure at 10am for the town of Chanarmuyo, a 3.5-hour drive. Overnight stay at a hotel in Chanarmuyo.

 

DAY 3

 

Departure at 10 after 4 hours of driving we arrive at Cortaderas 3600 mts where we acclimatise for 5 days.

Night at the Cortaderas Hotel

DAY 4

 

We gradually acclimatize to Cerro Lampayo at 4,300 meters, a 6-hour day in total. Afterwards, we return for the night to the Cortaderas Hotel at 3,600 meters.

 

DAY 5

 

Departure at 8:00 AM for Cerro Las Losas, climatization up to 4,700 meters, a 9-hour day in total. Return to the Cortaderas Hotel.

DAY 6

 

After preparing the cars with all the material we leave for the 4600 Base Camp, a 4 hour drive to cover 90 km. Night

DAY 7

 

After breakfast, departure to Camp 1 for acclimatization at 5200 meters, 4.30 hours of ascent and 2 hours of descent. Return to base camp for the night.

 

DAY 8

 

Rest day at base camp

DAY 9

 

With all the material we go to the 1 night camp.

It's a 3 hour walk and we arrive at camp 2 at 5900m

The porters load the material.

DAY 12

 

Summit day departure 5am estimated to reach the summit 8 to 10 hours of ascent plus 4 descent.

Night at Camp 2 5900 mts

DAY 13

 

After breakfast, we head to base camp and immediately to the Pircas Hotel, where we visit the hot springs. A seven-hour drive.

DAY 14

 

Return to La Rioja and flight to Buenos Aires

DAY 15 Extra day
